Meet Rhonda Levenda

My name is Rhonda Levenda and I am running for Mesa School Board. I am a school psychologist, worked in Mesa Public Schools five years and have three daughters that attended Red Mountain High School. As a school board member, I will bring transparency to our budget, represent parents and teachers, and work to bring creativity back to the classroom.

As a Mesa School Board Member, I will hold Mesa Public Schools accountable for every dollar. During my time worked in Mesa, I became increasingly frustrated with inefficient spending practices. Although the Red4Ed movement placed education in the spotlight this election cycle, it neglected to place appropriate responsibility on school boards as the overseer of school finances and teacher pay. It was during the walkout I decided to run for Mesa School Board to do my part in holding Mesa Public Schools financially accountable before putting more burden on the backs of taxpayers.

As a Mesa School Board member, I will represent parents and be their voice. Parent input and involvement is the most valuable resource available to school districts, giving insight into student needs and improving outcomes. As a mother of three girls that attended Mesa Public Schools, I know personally the challenges parents face. We need to collaborate with and listen to parents.

As a Mesa School Board member, I will advocate to empower our teachers and bring creativity back to the classroom. Every move a teacher makes is largely dictated by evaluation procedures, changing curriculum demands and teaching to standardized tests. By giving teachers freedom in the classroom we will improve student outcomes and teacher retention rates. By adopting curriculum that embraces independent thinking and innovation, we will bring creativity back to the classroom.

As a fiscal conservative, educator and parent I am equipped to be the next school board member of Mesa Public Schools. I will bring transparency and accountability to our budget and spending practices. I will advocate for parents and work to increase their involvement. I will act on behalf of teachers to give them the freedom they need and deserve in the classroom. Together, we will make Mesa Public Schools great!
